History of the area

A popular tale explains the meaning behind Kabulonga's name. It is believed there lived a man named Buloongo with his wife who was known as MukaBuloongo or Buloongo's wife. The British settlers had difficulty in pronouncing her name and referred to her as Kabulonga, a name that remains in use.

Today, the suburb of Kabulonga is synonymous with exclusivity and progress. The area is home to some of Lusaka's most prestigious businesses. In 2019, the Shoprite Group opened a world-class store in the area, offering patrons an unrivalled retail experience. Roads in the area have also been revamped as part of the Lusaka Decongestion Project.

Climate

As part of Lusaka, Kabulonga has a humid, subtropical climate. The area is a mecca if you love sunny weather and spending time in nature. In summer, temperatures rise into the high 20s or early 30s, creating the perfect conditions for picnics and poolside fun. In winter, the temperatures cool down to the low to mid-20s.

Kabulonga is approximately 8 km from the American International School of LusakaCasa dei Bambini and, on the other side, approximately 8 km from the British International Primary School, and the Lusaka International Community School (LICS). Children can also attend Baobab College, with school buses available from the Village in Leopards Hill and Crossroads in Kabulonga.

Other schools include Woodford School Lusaka, Tiny Toes Early Learning Centre, Leopard Cubs Pre-School, and Kids Paradise Nursery School Day Care.
